How You Can Help

Since it was established by Bradley and Debbie Gardner in 1999, Begawan Foundation has made major contributions to the local community in the areas of the environmenteducation and health.

For the past 21 years, the Gardners have financed much of the Foundation’s activities.

A major focus during the early years was the re-establishment of a viable flock of Bali's iconic bird, the Bali Starling on Nusa Penida. We would like to thank the sponsors, who assisted with financing this important aspect of our foundation.

The GreenAsia Group, founded in Singapore by Bradley T Gardner in 2007, with an international network of experts all committed to promoting and delivering sustainable development and management solutions that benefit People, Profit and Planet, donates a percentage of its profits to the Bali Starling Breeding and Release Program.

Wildlife Reserves Singapore has financially supported Begawan Foundation since 2011, funding a variety of activities. This ongoing support gives Begawan Foundation the opportunity to continue to develop its activities in Melinggih village by assisting with food for birds, staff fees, site maintenance and education programmes.

Ongoing personal and international grants, such as that received from Ocean Park Conservation Foundation in Hong Kong from 2018-2020, enable the staff here in Bali to carry out their activities at both the centre and in the local community, working together with schools and the small villages surrounding the breeding site.

Begawan Foundation is deeply committed to expanding the scale of our existing projects and initiating new ones that will serve to fulfill our Mission. If you share our goals, we would sincerely appreciate any assistance that you can give us.

If you would like to make a donation to assist in monitoring the future of the Bali Starling, or to assist in the costs relating to further breeding at Begawan Foundation Breeding & Release Centre, located at Melinggih Kelod, we would appreciate hearing from you.

Please see the token at the top of this page which gives you the opportunity to donate via Paypal. If you wish to make a bank transfer, the details are at the bottom of this page.

You may like to donate funds to purchase food for a bird for a year, or even for a couple. Go to our adoption page and make a Bali Starling your own.

If you are interested to see how the birds have increased in number over the years, we will gladly share the studbook information with you. If you are interested to visit the Breeding and Release Centre at Melinggih Kelod, we would appreciate hearing from you in order for us to arrange a guided site visit.

You may like to visit and work with us as a volunteer for a while - we welcome new skills and new ideas both in the conservation area and the education sector. Our students in the Learning Centre love to work with visitors, and are happy to demonstrate their own skills as well as learning from you. Just contact us direct.

Please have a look at this link to our Wish List detailing items that we need in the Breeding and Release Centre and the Learning Centre.
